What are dental implants?

Dental implants are one of the most effective and long-lasting ways to replace teeth and deliver a complete, natural-looking smile. They can give you back the ability to speak clearly, chew comfortably, and have an overwhelmingly positive effect on your self-confidence.

Implants are small titanium posts that are surgically placed into your jawbone. They act just like natural tooth roots, and fuse to the surrounding bone to provide a strong and solid foundation for a custom-made and beautifully aesthetic replacement tooth.

Our dental implant treatment steps

1. Consultation

We begin your dental implants treatment with a detailed consultation. We assess your teeth and gums, overall general and oral health, and take x-rays to take a more detailed look at the density of your jawbone. We also explain the treatment process to you and give you the chance to ask any questions.

2. Planning

We create your bespoke treatment plan, using advanced digital technology to carefully work out the best places for your titanium implants. If you have insufficient bone volume in your jaw, we may need to arrange a bone grafting procedure at this stage.

3. Implant placement

Your dental implants are placed into your jaw by our skilled dentist, using local anaesthetic to minimise any discomfort. The implant surgery is relatively simple, and doesn’t take long, but your implants need several months to heal and fuse to the surrounding bone. We fit a temporary tooth to protect your gum during this time.

4. Your new smile

When your implants have fully settled and healed, we take digital impressions so your custom crown or bridge can be created to blend seamlessly into your smile. We then fit these replacement teeth to your strongly positioned implants to complete your treatment.

Common questions

What are dental implants, and how do they replace teeth?

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are surgically placed into your jawbone to replace missing teeth. They fuse with the jawbone over time to provide a stable foundation for your new teeth and facilitate a strong and natural-looking smile. A custom-made crown, bridge or denture is attached to your dental implant to complete your treatment.

What is the process of getting dental implants?

The process for getting dental implants involves several steps. We begin with a comprehensive consultation to assess your suitability for implants and plan your treatment. The subsequent steps include implant placement, healing, and fitting natural-looking replacement teeth.

How can I find dental implants near me?

If you’re looking for an experienced dental practice offering dental implants to replace teeth, look no further than the Ivory Dental Studio. We are located in the Marylebone area of London and are always happy to help get your implants journey started.

What are the benefits of dental implants compared to other options for missing teeth?

Dental implants offer several benefits compared to other options for missing teeth, such as bridges or dentures. Implants are incredibly aesthetic, blending seamlessly into your smile and giving you back the feel and function of natural teeth. You can eat, speak and smile with confidence. Dental implants also stimulate your jaw bone and prevent bone loss, which can occur with bridges or dentures. They also don’t affect the surrounding healthy teeth at all.

Who is a good candidate for implants?

Good candidates for dental implants generally have sufficient bone density in the jaw to support the implant, are in good overall health, and have healthy gums. They should also be committed to maintaining good oral hygiene and attending regular dental check-ups. We always carry out a thorough consultation to ensure you are suitable for the treatment.

Is dental implant treatment painful?

You shouldn’t feel any pain during your dental implant treatment, as we use local anaesthetic during the surgery. Afterward, you may feel some discomfort, but this does not last long and can be managed by taking painkillers as advised by your dentist.

How long does dental implant treatment take?

The whole dental implant process takes several months, as the implant needs time to heal and fuse to your bone before fixed permanent teeth can complete your smile. The implant surgery itself is a relatively quick procedure, but healing can take up to six months in some cases. Your new smile will be worth the wait!

How long do dental implants last?

Dental implants have the potential to last a lifetime, provided they are looked after well. This includes brushing daily and using floss or interdental brushes regularly. It is also important to look after your oral health and visit your dentist for routine check-up appointments so they can keep an eye on your dental implants.
